You, too, should have an estate plan

On Behalf of | Jun 8, 2016 | Firm News, Wills |

If you are visiting this blog, you might be a bit hesitant or anxious. Estate planning can be emotional and daunting, bringing up matters that you might not like to think about — such as death and taxes.

But if you are looking at this page, then you probably have at least some understanding of the importance of creating an estate plan. Maybe you are feeling more protective of your assets after reaching a financial goal you’ve worked hard to attain. Maybe you are a new parent and feel more than ever that you want to protect your family.

There are various reasons why someone would want to and should work with an estate planning lawyer. It doesn’t matter if you are a young, single professional or a nearing-retirement grandfather; there are legal options that can benefit not just your family in the future, but your state of mind today.

This is the first of many posts that will cover valuable basics about creating estate plans and more. First, let’s give you a list of the multiple issues (but not all) that you can address through planning for your estate:

  • Wills
  • Living wills
  • Trusts
  • Power of attorney
  • Estate administration
  • Inheritance tax
  • Guardianships and conservatorships
  • Special needs trusts

Each of these matters is complicated in its own right. One, some or all of these estate planning options could apply to your situation. You probably won’t know that unless you take the time to discuss your situation and goals with lawyers dedicated to serving Ohio residents’ estate planning needs.

Executing on your hunch that you need to create a will, trust, power or attorney, etc. means protecting what you’ve worked hard for and protecting your family’s stability in the future. It is a wise, loving, and yes, legal step.
